KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 (Bernama) -- Olipro Biotechnology Sdn Bhd launched the world's first porcine gene chip which is designed to help food manufacturers in determining their ingredients to be halal.Its chief executive director Diong Sing Peng said the chip, which took two and a half years to develop, has received a lot of attention, especially from major food manufacturing companies which are concerned whether the ingredients they used are halal."We just launched it today but a lot of companies have shown interest in the product," he said.He launch was held in conjunction with the World Halal Research Summit here.Diong said the chip basically would be able to detect the DNA in food or mixtures to determine whether the product contained the presence of porcine elements."The chip is even capable of testing on gelatine capsules," he said.According to him, the testing can be done within four to six hours but due to the company's concern over the accuracy, the results will be delivered within two days.Diong said the company also planned to launch a series of new chips in near future which could detect the presence of beef, mutton, chicken and vegetables to suit different market demands.Olipro is a Malaysian-owned company involving in the research and development of screening and diagnostic kits based on the biochip platform, and contact research services.-- BERNAMA
