INTRODUCTION
Background The Halal industry covers a very wide range of products and services, from upstream agriculture production to manufacturing, from logistics to regulations and policies, from laboratory analysis to promotion and branding, trading and marketing to interpretation of Islamic jurisdiction. The lack of knowledge and research development in Halal food products and consumer goods has resulted in abuse and fraud among irresponsible manufacturers which had deceived and confused consumers. The future of the Halal industry is dependable upon overcoming the challenges the industry is facing. Given the intensity of global competition, it is extremely important that there is concerted effort to share technical resources and expertise while capitalizing on existing assets and strengths.

World Halal Research 2009
The World Halal Research 2009 is an international conference which provides a platform for scientists, researchers, scholars and academicians etc. to discuss and exchange ideas on new research findings, emerging technologies, trends, issues and challenges in the global Halal industry. Apart from providing updates on the latest issues in Halal industry research, the conference also aims to provide participants with the latest developments, technologies, emerging trends, product innovation, best practices and more within the Halal industry. This will also encourage a continuous effort in developing human capital and knowledge based economy which is imperative for the growth of the Halal industry. Formerly known as the International Conference on Research Advances in Halal Science, this conference is expected to be the catalyst in bringing the Halal Research and Development frontier further. It will explore new dimensions and chart new findings in Halal research for the benefit of all.

Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC)
Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) was established by the Malaysian Government on 18th September 2006 to co-ordinate the overall development of the Halal industry in Malaysia and to facilitate its growth globally. HDC has been collaborating with various universities, research institutes and companies to leverage the Research and Development (R&D) of Halal products and services to a higher level. The organizing of this conference is part of the effort in promoting a better understanding, appreciation and the application of Halal via the platforms of scientific researches to the world.

CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES
 To provide an international platform for researchers to introduce, explore and discuss latest updates on research findings, emerging technologies, trends, issues and challenges in Halal industry.

 To encourage more researches on products, processes, services and standards relevant to Halal industry and to appreciate efforts taken in putting them into practices (i.e. commercialization).

 To establish an international network among scientists, researchers, academicians in developing a recognized International Reference Center in Syariah and Scientific researches in Malaysia.

 To foster the development of knowledge based human capital which is vital for the growth of Halal industry in Malaysia and globally.

 To promote Malaysia as the centre for Research and Development (R&D) related to Halal industry.
